Open Labour welcomes IPPR Commission on Economic Justice Report

Open Labour welcomes the publication of the final IPPR Commission on Economic Justice Report.

Much of the report expands on our own and the Party’s aim to deliver a fairer society with a robust industrial strategy as the basis for a sound economy.

The conclusions of the report should form the basis for radical policy development for the next Labour Party manifesto. This gives us the chance to challenge failed Tory economics; offer voters a vision and policies to transform our economy to one that is inclusive and works towards ending poverty; take action to reduce the regional divide and recognise the specific difficulties facing young people in our society.

Particularly welcome is the focus on the green economy and an industrial strategy that recognises the importance of supporting communities and regions which have been adversely impacted by change. We acknowledge that making the UK economy globally sustainable will not be easy. It will involve a transformation in the way we produce and consume resources, affecting more or less every major sector.

We hope the report acts as a catalyst to action, giving us the drive and inspiration to develop policy that engages the electorate. This gives the next Labour government the blueprint for a cohesive, resilient society where fairness is at the heart of our economic policy.
