Democracy

The open left seeks to expand public and cooperative ownership models, extend workplace democracy, and deliver an equitable distribution of wealth.

We support wide democratic reforms to modernise the UK, ditching outdated institutions such as the House of Lords and First Past the Post and instead expanding devolution and creating robust mechanisms for greater accountability of government institutions.

Open Labour is part of the Labour for a New Democracy coalition which campaigns for fairer voting with proportional representation. We also won fairer voting on Labour’s NEC, which we hope to see extended in Labour’s internal democracy.
