Statement in Support of Ann Black

As a two-decade-long voice for party democracy and left policy, Open Labour will continue to support Ann Black and her place on the National Executive Committee.

We will continue to support a diversity of left voices on the NEC and other party bodies. We are saddened that Momentum has decided to remove Ann Black from their slate. No single organisation can decide to speak for the left in the party, particularly before NEC candidate negotiations with other left organisations have concluded. This is especially true for the CLGA, which was created to support an alliance of left voices in the party with a collective voice.

This is not accountable, visible or pluralist as we would expect from a democratic Labour left.

Alongside our support for Ann Black, we will consider options for securing pluralist left voices on the NEC and on bodies such as the NPF in the future, including endorsing existing candidates who support our values, as well as seeking out new voices.
